The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is asking people living near the Villa Nova Plaza in Conception Bay South to stay inside their homes and lock their doors as police look for one person involved in a shooting which left two dead.

A man and a woman were shot and killed at a doctor's office in Villa Nova Plaza, sources confirmed to CBC's David Cochrane.

Police have blocked off the road about one kilometre away from where the incident is said to have occurred.

Const. Talia Murphy, spokesperson for the RNC, told reporters at the scene that police received a call around 7:10 p.m. NT of gunshots being fired in the Villa Nova Plaza area of Manuels.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the province's police force, initially thought they might be looking for more than one suspect. But they later confirmed they were searching for a single suspect.

Police did not provide a description.

Murphy says there were a lot of people around the area at the time of the reported shooting. Police are interviewing and questioning witnesses.

After midnight Wednesday morning, there was still a heavy police presence at the crime scene, said Cochrane. Police were still interviewing witnesses.

Murphy is refusing to comment on whether anyone was injured. CBC reporters at the scene say three ambulances were seen leaving the area.

Police have not speculated on a motive.

No further updates from police are expected until Wednesday morning.
