The star of CBC's Republic of Doyle announced on Wednesday he would be producing a television series, based on a best-selling novel from a Newfoundland writer.

Allan Hawco's production company Take the Shot has teamed with Entertainment One to create the series, which will be based on Caught, written by Lisa Moore.

Caught is a novel set in 1978, and follows the journey of David Slaney as he tries to escape his criminal past, states a news release from the production companies.

Hawco will play the leading role of Slaney

"Caught presents an outstanding opportunity to continue our special relationship with CBC," Hawco said in a news release.

"We have no doubt that Caught will be the first of many world class productions that we collaborate on together with eOne."

The series will be produced for the CBC, and is currently under development.
