Fatal ATV crash in Branch not reported to RCMP until after man died, say police
Police say investigation of Boxing Day crash affected by delay in notification, which came days later
A 56-year-old man is dead after an ATV crash in Branch on Boxing Day.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the man died at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's on Dec. 30.
It's believed he was the only person on the vehicle, and the ATV was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
The incident was not reported to the RCMP until the man was dead, police say. An investigation is underway to determine if alcohol was a factor, but there are challenges due to the delay in notification.
"Police have the area of the collision narrowed down, but the ATV had been removed immediately following the crash, prior to paramedics arriving," said Cpl. Jolene Garland, a media officer for the RCMP.
The man was first rushed to Placentia, before being moved to St. John's.
