Canada election 2015: CBC hosting 2 live election debates
People in two key ridings in Newfoundland and Labrador are getting their first chance to see the candidates go head-to-head in a debate.
CBC Newfoundland and Labrador is hosting two live election debates next week, which will air live on CBC Radio One.
The first debate involves St. John's South-Mount Pearl, where Liberal Seamus O'Regan is trying to unseat NDP candidate Ryan Cleary. Cleary made history in 2011 as the first NDP candidate ever elected to the riding.
Cleary and O'Regan will take questions from the CBC's Peter Cowan, who will be moderating the debates.
The St. John's South-Mount Pearl debate will air live on Tuesday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. NT on CBC Radio One. There are no other candidates declared in that riding to participate in the debate.
The other featured riding is Avalon, where Scott Andrews is running as an Independent after being booted from the Liberal party over allegations of sexual misconduct.
He'll be in the debate with Liberal Ken McDonald, Conservative Lorraine Barnett and NDP candidate Jeannie Baldwin. Green Party candidate Krista Byrne-Puumala declined to participate. Prospective Strength for Democracy candidate Jennifer McCreath has withdrawn from the debate while she reassesses her campaign.
That debate will air live on Thursday from 8:30 to 10 p.m. NT on CBC Radio.
