'I started jumping for joy!': Carbonear bricklayer, 22, wins Set for Life
Tylor Stewart plans to buy house, support mother and daughter
A young man from Carbonear says he's able to start with a clean financial slate after winning on Set for Life.
Tylor Stewart, a 22-year-old bricklayer, was on a lotto winning streak — coming up with $30, $50 and $10 wins on scratch and pull tab tickets — before grabbing the major prize.
"I was thinking, what if I won this now tonight," Stewart said of the evening he found out he won on a Set for Life scratch ticket. "It would be crazy. I wouldn't be able to believe it."
Sure enough, Stewart won on the first game.
"I started jumping for joy. I started saying, 'I won, I won, I won.'"
Taking care of family
Stewart said he'll continue with work, but the $675,000 lump sum payment will allow him to purchase his first house and take care of those closest to him — his mother and 14-month-old daughter, Addison.
"[My mom] raised me up to be good and have a good heart, and she did the best she could for me growing up so now it's my turn to make sure she's looked after," Stewart told CBC News Wednesday.
"Anything she needs or wants, all she has to do ... I'm just a phone call away."
As for his daughter, Stewart said he'll ensure she has an education fund.
"The way the budget is going, in 20 years who knows what the cost of schooling is going to be?"
Harbour Grace Ultramar sold the winning ticket and will receive a one per cent seller's prize.
