Young girl dead, man in hospital following Carbonear house fire
RCMP say a young girl is dead and a man is in hospital following a house fire in Carbonear.
Harbour Grace RCMP and the Carbonear Fire Brigade responded to the fire on Hayden Heights road around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.
Police told CBC News that the single-detached home has sustained extensive damage. The fire has since been extinguished and police remain at the scene.
No one else was in the home at the time.
In a statement released this morning, Harbour Grace RCMP said it is conducting an investigation with the help of Holyrood and Bay Roberts detachments.
Major crime and forensic units, the fire commissioner's office and the office of the medical examiner are also on the scene.
