Corner Brook's Winter Carnival in full swing with snow sculpture contest

It's the time of year when people in Corner Brook welcome the giant piles of snow, as the town is in the midst of its annual Winter Carnival.

Families flocked to Margaret Bowater Park Monday for some winter fun and take part in the snow sculpture competition.

Mother Diedre MacDonnell brought her kids out for the second year running — and they hope to replicate their success of last year.

"We took part last year and we actually won last year for most creative, so the kids were very anxious to get back out and try again this year," she said.

While many people had the day off work in Corner Brook, organizer Karen Skinner said there were more families than expected.

"We planned for 800 children today but I think we have already past that, and we already have over 100 snow sculptures in the making here today," said Skinner.

Carnival celebrations continue throughout the week, including a variety show at the Arts and Culture Centre Monday night.
