Drill rig en route to Conception Bay in wake of 'near miss'

The drill rig Henry Goodrich should arrive in Conception Bay within three days, according to Newfoundland and Labrador's offshore regulator.

The drill rig Henry Goodrich is en route to a near-shore location in Conception Bay, according to Newfoundland and Labrador's offshore regulator.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board said late Friday afternoon that Husky Energy is moving the rig.

The Henry Goodrich is currently under tow, and should arrive in three days, according to the C-NLOPB.

The regulator did not outline the reasons for the move, and steered all other questions on the matter to Husky.

Operations on the drill rig have been suspended since Aug. 23, after an incident the offshore regulator has called a "near miss."

The "dropped object incident" involved a hydraulic cylinder — part of the equipment that handles the drill string on the rig floor.

No one on board was injured.
