Drivers impaired by alcohol, drug stopped on the Avalon
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary stopped three drivers in St. John's and Paradise overnight who are now facing charges of impaired driving.
An off-duty officer spotted a vehicle near Topsail Road and Burgeo Street around 6:15 p.m. Thursday and noted the driver seemed to be impaired.
A short time later, police stopped the vehicle and examined the driver for suspected drug use.
The 34-year-old man was given a seven-day driving suspension, and samples have been sent to the crime lab to determine whether he was impaired by a drug.
Later Thursday night, a patrol unit witnessed a driver who failed to stop at a stop sign on Kenmount Road.
Police stopped the driver who was showing signs of impairment. The 46-year-old was issued a seven-day driving suspension and a traffic ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign.
Meanwhile, police stopped a third driver around 1:10 a.m., Friday on Topsail Road in Paradise.
The vehicle was operating without tail lights and was seen crossing the centre line multiple times.
Officers stopped the driver in the Donovan's Industrial Park area and the 34-year-old was charged with impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.
He was released to appear in court at a later date.
