Thomas George Michel, a Sheshatshiu resident who is accused of killing his infant son, has been granted bail, although the decision has sparked anger in the community.
"He killed my grandson and he's just, just been released — that's not right," said Sebastian Benuen, the grandfather of four-month-old Matthew Rich, who died last fall.
Michel is accused of second-degree murder in Rich's death.
Relatives of both the victim and the accused showed up with signs at the courthouse in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for Michel's bail hearing.
His preliminary inquiry is expected to continue in October.
