Fines of $50 given for failing to show up for jury duty

Six people got a hard lesson in civic duty on Thursday at Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John's. 

Five women and a man were each fined $50 for failing to show up for jury selection for the David Folker murder trial. 

They told the court that they forgot. 

Justice Wayne Dymond said if everyone acted like those people, court would not be able to proceed.
