Girl, 8, discovers trilobite fossils in C.B.S.
'I'm just kind of into dinosaurs,' Isadora Barnes says
An eight-year-old girl has assembled her own collection of trilobite fossils, which she dug up near her home in Conception Bay South.
Isadora Barnes told CBC's St. John's Morning Show this week the fossils she discovered are like the trilobites discovered.at Manuel's River.
"My grandmother and I were out on a walk and we came upon a man, who was digging. My Nan and him got into a conversation, and the man showed my nan a picture of a fossil on the phone," she said.
"And a couple of days later, we started digging, then we both hit something. We didn't know what it was until we took it out, and it was a fossil."
Barnes' mother Gail said her daughter's discoveries have come as quite the surprise.
"I was really excited, I was also really surprised that they had found so many fossils, and where they had found them," she said.
Isadora Barnes said it's not just the fossils she's interested in, however.
"It's the fool's gold too," she said. "Sometimes fool's gold comes with the fossils, but I only find little batches of it."
Barnes said she has a real interest in all-things fossil-related.
"I'm thinking about being a paleontologist. I'm just kind of into dinosaurs," she said.
