Guilty plea entered over pit bull attack

A man accused of letting two pit bull terriers run loose at a popular St. John's dog park last fall has pleaded guilty.

Jason English, 27, was charged under the Dog Act after two pit bulls attacked and injured another dog near Quidi Vidi Lake, in the city's east end.

The attack prompted a public debate on aggressive dogs.

St. John's Mayor Andy Wells not only advised city staff to put down dogs they determine to be dangerous, but dared owners of those dogs to sue him in such circumstances.

English will return to court for sentencing on June 26.

Meanwhile, English has also been charged with trafficking marijuana and conspiracy to traffic marijuana.

He is due to appear in Newfoundland Supreme Court on those charges on May 2.
