A trial in a St. John's courtroom reveals how a brutal attack and riot inside Newfoundland and Labrador's largest prison unfolded last winter.

Jody Clarke, 38, Justin Harvey, 24, and Calvin Kenny, 23, are accused of participating in a riot and assault causing bodily harm in relation to the riot, in which Kenny Green is alleged to have been a target.

Green, 35, was reportedly the target of an attack inside the chapel at Her Majesty's Penitentiary, that left the convicted killer beaten and bloodied with multiple puncture wounds.

Justin Wiseman, 23, pleaded guilty to his involvement in the riot and was sentenced to seven months on Friday. Paul Connolly, 32, pleaded guilty earlier this year and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Philip Pynn, who is also facing multiple charges related to the riot, will be tried separately on Dec. 1.

One key piece of evidence entered in the judge-alone trial was surveillance tape from the Sunday afternoon Salvation Army service that took a violent turn.

The surveillance picked up most of the violent attack, although one inmate attempted to conceal the camera with towels.

It's difficult to keep track of everything happening. In the video above, we've broken it down step-by-step to take you through the incident that left the prison on edge, and correctional officers with the sense of vulnerability.
