Accused murderer was hiding in trunk as 2nd man drove vehicle, says RNC

A teenager charged with first-degree murder made his first court appearance on Friday in St. John's.

Ibrahim Hussein, 19, has been charged with first-degree murder, and a number of firearms offences, after the killing of Gerald Kyle Hynes, a 33-year-old man in St. John's Tuesday night.

After a two-day manhunt by police, Hussein was arrested by the RCMP on Thursday around noon NT in Port Aux Basques, N.L., at the Marine Atlantic terminal, where police say he was trying to board the ferry to Nova Scotia.

According to an RNC statement on Friday, officers found Hussein in the trunk of a vehicle that was being driven by a second man, Hussein Hussein, as they were waiting at the ferry terminal.

Hussein Hussein, 23, has also been charged with accessory after the fact of murder and obstruction. He is being held in Corner Brook and appeared in court through teleconference.

Police began looking for the teen Tuesday night after what they believe was a targeted shooting in the east end of St. John's.

The pair were both remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
