The power company issued a warning for people who have power and have flooding in their homes.

"The best advice we can give in these cases especially when it comes to flooding if you have access to your main panel turn it off, but if that happens to be in your basement and you have flooding in your basement by all means stay out of that water, stay out of that area and I'd even suggest that you leave the home," said Newfoundland Power's Bob Pike.

Pike said the company expects heavy rain and high winds to bring down some power lines.

He warned people to stay away from any downed lines and call the power company for repairs.

Pike said about 7,000 customers are affected.

He said it's impossible to say when all the outages will be repaired.

In some cases, crews can't get to the damaged equipment because of road conditions.
