Fort McFlurry: A tasty fundraiser for Fort Mac at McDonald's in Clarenville

Jeffrey Critch has never been to Fort McMurray, but that didn't stop the 8-year-old from helping those affected by recent wild fires in the Alberta town.

The grade two student knew people living there could use a little lift.

"All of their homes burned down," he said. "They need more money to buy food and stuff."

Critch had a frosty fundraising idea — to get the local McDonald's in Clarenville to change the name of the McFlurry, to the Fort McFlurry.

His mom, Lisa Lambert Fudge, took a picture of Critch holding the frozen fast food treat along with a sign pitching his fundraising

More than 5000 Facebook shares later the McDonald's in Clarenville took him up on the offer, and on Saturday Critch stepped behind the counter and watched his wish turned into reality.

"I helped them make the McFlurries," he said.

"It felt really good."

The McDonald's in Clarneville hadn't tallied up the amount raised as Sunday evening.
