Families and residents in the Kenmount Terrace area of St. John's are feeling nervous after several gunshots were fired there on Friday night, striking several cars and damaging at least one home.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident, which occurred just before midnight.

Mike Penton, a resident who lives nearby with his wife and young child, said it left him feeling uncomfortable.

"It's a little unsettling, just having something that close to home," Penton said.

"I mean, you don't expect that type of thing to happen in the city, let alone, literally, pretty much in your backyard, so just having that happen around here, having a young family, and that sort of thing, it just doesn't put you at ease," he added.

"Having that type of thing happen, it's a slim chance it could come to hurt you, but it's close enough that it certainly puts you at a level of fear that you don't expect to have in St. John's."

RNC said they have recovered the weapon, but are still asking any witnesses of the incident to come forward.
