Labrador fire claims 1 victim

One person is dead after a house fire Saturday morning in the Labrador community of Nain.

An RCMP spokesperson said a patrol car was driving through the community at around 5 a.m. local time when officers noticed smoke coming from a residence.

Firefighters were called, but the home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

It was initially thought that four people were in the dwelling, but three of them were at another residence.

One 50-year-old man, believed to be the victim, could not be accounted for. The remains of a body were found in the home after the fire was put out.

A fire investigator has been sent to the scene. No other details were immediately available.
