Liberals win Humber East and Trinity-Bay de Verde byelections

The Liberals have swept two byelections in Newfoundland and Labrador districts that had previously been represented by prominent cabinet ministers.

The Liberals have swept two byelections in Newfoundland and Labrador districts that had previously been represented by prominent cabinet ministers. 

Byelections were held today in the Corner Brook-area district of Humber East and the Avalon Peninsula district of Trinity-Bay de Verde. 

Humber East

Liberal Stelman Flynn has won the Humber East byelection with 2263 votes.

PC candidate Lary Wells received 1454 votes, and NDP candidate Martin Ware had 315 votes.

The seat was left vacant by outgoing premier Tom Marshall.

Trinity-Bay de Verde

Liberal Steve Crocker has won the byelection in the district of Trinity-Bay de Verde with 3074 votes.

PC Ronald Johnson received 1363 votes, and NDP candidate Tolson Rendell had 254 votes.

The seat was previously held by former finance minister Charlene Johnson.
