Merv Wiseman gets reprimand over MHA's sub-centre visit
The coast guard employee who's been outspoken about the closure of the marine rescue sub-centre says he has been given a letter of reprimand.
Merv Wiseman says a disciplinary board took the action Wednesday morning.
Wiseman says he breached work rules back in February when he gave an unauthorized tour of the search and rescue facility to a Liberal MHA and a party staffer.
He says he knew about the rules, but didn't do anything deceptive.
"On Feb. 3, the reminder had been sent around in an e-mail about this protocol, apparently," Wiseman said. "But we did it openly, and signed in to the commissionaires, we took a picture up there and [the MHA] put it on Facebook. So it was nothing covert, nothing untoward."
Wiseman is still fighting the closure. But he says if the centre shuts down as planned this month, he'll retire after 35 years of service.
