Two young moose running around King's Bridge Road in St. John's were relocated by Conservation Officers Friday.

The backyard of an older home in one of St. John's historic neighbourhoods looked like a wildlife preserve Friday after two young moose wandered onto the property.

The animals were spotted in a fenced yard on King's Bridge Road and provincial conservation officers were on the scene around 8 a.m.

The moose, thought to be yearlings, were tranquilized and hoisted into pickup trucks for transfer to a less urban environment.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources told CBC they were taken to a wooded area outside the city.

It took several conservation officers to load the young moose onto pickups so they could be moved to a safer area. (Eddy Kennedy/CBC)
