N.L. Liberals open nominations for provincial election
A provincial election must take place by Oct. 14

Newfoundland and Labrador's Liberal Party has started gearing up for a provincial election.
On Wednesday, the party announced two acclaimed candidates and opened nominations for the districts of Conception Bay South and Ferryland — two seats currently held by PC MHAs Paul Dinn and Loyola O'Driscoll.
Premier John Hogan was acclaimed for his district of Windsor Lake in St. John's, and MHA Lucy Stoyles was acclaimed for her district of Mount Pearl North.
Hogan is the first premier in over a decade to run in St. John's Metro. Progressive Conservative premier Paul Davis represented the district of Topsail-Paradise during his premiership in 2014.
Only two other former premiers have held seats in the province's capital city. Joey Smallwood was MHA for St. John's West from 1959 to 1962, and the province's 10th premier, Kathy Dunderdale, was MHA for Virginia Lake between 2010 and 2013.
Hogan's previous political incumbent, former premier Andrew Furey, is MHA for the district of Humber-Gros Morne on Newfoundland's west coast, a seat he took over following the resignation of former premier Dwight Ball.
A provincial election must take place by Oct. 14.
Newfoundland and Labrador's PC Party started recruiting candidates for the provincial election last year, while the NDP started in March.
