The Department of Natural Resources has banned outdoor fires in and around forested areas throughout Newfoundland.
The hot and dry weather has raised the threat of forest fires. The department says the forest fire index is at "extreme levels" in many parts of the province.
The ban includes outdoor fires, unauthorized burning including campfires, brush burning and fireworks.
Gas barbecues and CSA-approved patio wood-burning devices are excluded except in municipalities that have issued a ban.
