Just as local para-athlete Liam Hickey starts to wind down after a second-place finish in wheelchair basketball at the Parapan Am Games, he's been asked to attend a development camp for a different sport.

Hickey, 17, is on the camp roster for Hockey Canada's 2015-16 sledge hockey team and will have a chance to make the team and compete internationally.

He is one of 18 forwards on the roster, and is the only player from Newfoundland and Labrador.

Once the development camp is completed, players will attend Canada's National Sledge Team selection camp from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 in Calgary.

Hickey and Team Canada got the silver medal at the Parapan Am Games in wheelchair basketball in Toronto this summer.

In that sport, he's hoping to join the Canadian team for the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
