Paul Davis dances, jumps rope to promote school physical activity programs
Students across Newfoundland and Labrador were called on to increase their daily level of activity Monday as the provincial government announced expanded physical activity programs.
At a news conference at Paradise Elementary, Canadian Tire Corporation announced it would be contributing up to $400,000 over three years.
That's in addition to $500,000 from the province, first announced in this year's budget.
The money will go towards equipment and how schools go about encouraging students to get active and eat healthy.
"It's about merging how you deliver curriculum with activity and also focus on not only just the activity but health eating," said Premier Paul Davis.
The initiative is in partnership with ParticipACTION, School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District.
Schools taking part in the programs will be given resources, equipment and teacher training.
Davis and Sandy Collins, minister of child, youth and family services, took a "do what I do" approach during the news conference.
