The City of St. John's says it's keeping the Paul Reynolds Centre closed for another day to facilitate repairs to the building's entrance.

Part of the ceiling above the entrance collapsed on Friday evening, prompting a closure the remainder of the weekend.

"The city apologizes for the inconvenience this closure may cause," said city spokesperson Jackie O'Brien in a statement on Monday afternoon.

O'Brien says there will be another update at 5 p.m. NT on Tuesday.

Friday's incident isn't the first structural problem the centre has had since it opened in 2017.

The original opening of the $32-million facility had been delayed due to construction delays, and later there were HVAC, corrosion and ceiling panel problems.
