The call display may read 'N.L. Power,' but the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning people that the power company is not calling customers looking for credit card information.
The RNC said it received numerous calls on Tuesday from people who were targets of a phone scam.
The fraudster identifies themselves as being with Newfoundland Power, and asks the person on the other line to provide credit card information to pay their power bill or they will "terminate their services immediately."
Police said that Newfoundland Power is not calling customers looking for bill payments.
The RNC is reminding people not to give out personal or banking information over the phone or online, unless company authenticity can be confirmed.
