The Avalon Peninsula will be under a power watch Monday evening, as Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro deals with a trip at the Hardwoods gas turbine earlier in the afternoon.

While customers aren't being instructed to conserve, NL Hydro said a power watch will be in effect from 5-8 p.m.

"No immediate action is required by customers. However, the electricity system on the Avalon is being monitored very closely and Hydro will advise if anything changes," a news release from the utility stated around 4:30 p.m.

Hydro said there was a trip at the Hardwoods gas turbine near Mount Pearl late Monday afternoon.

As well, Unit 1 at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Plant is working at a reduced capacity, Hydro said, due to a possible boiler tube leak.

All other generating units are online and it's not expected that customers will lose power.
