Relish Gourmet Burgers goes out of business
Gourmet burger restaurant in downtown St. John's shuts down
A gourmet burger restaurant in downtown St. John's has gone out of business.
Relish was known for its creative toppings and lively atmosphere, but a sign recently posted on the front door says the restaurant will be closed until further notice.
Inside, the tables, chairs and kitchen equipment have been stacked up.
Chef Roger Andrews, who owned and operated the Relish St. John's franchise, did not return calls for comment. The restaurant's website still lists locations in Vancouver, Halifax and Fredericton.
In 2015, Andrews told CBC that construction at the nearby St. John's Convention Centre was hurting his business.
He said the restaurant depended on foot traffic and with pedestrians avoiding the construction zone, his sales were cut in half.
Relish isn't the first gourmet burger restaurant to shut down in recent years. The Works, which operated on George Street, closed its doors in 2014 and a sushi restaurant has since moved in.
