Residents hoist Labrador flag at N.L.-Quebec border
After putting pressure on government to fly the Labrador flag at the province's border with Quebec, some area residents took matters into their own hands and hoisted the Labrador flag on their own.
However, Labrador Affairs Minister Nick McGrath said at the time, the flags currently raised represented the entire province as a whole, and government had no plans to change that.
Earlier this week, people in western Labrador got together to raise the flag at the border on their own - while holding smaller versions of the flag and singing the Ode to Labrador.
A similar event took place Saturday at the Newfoundland and Labrador-Quebec border in southern Labrador.
Brown said raising the Labrador flag isn't about taking away from the provincial, Canadian, and Union Jack flags already on the sign at the border, stating it's about adding one more to it.
"I did it out of respect because we can leave the other flags there, just add a fourth pole and include us," he said.
Brown, along with about 40 other western Labrador residents, erected a flagpole at the sign welcoming people to Newfoundland and Labrador.
"They [the province] repeatedly just say no with no real explanation, just 'we have one flag, let the issue die,' but right now I'm not going to do that. I think it's the right time to show the population does want this."
