Ron Hynes to undergo surgery
Singer-songwriter taking a break to deal with 'health concerns,' manager confirms
Newfoundland and Labrador singer-songwriter Ron Hynes is taking a break from show business.
Manager Lynn Horne has confirmed Hynes, 61, is dealing with a health issue, but won't reveal much more than that.
"Ron is doing fine. He feels okay. He's dealing with a minor health concerns at this point," said Horne.
"We're all staying positive and hoping for the best possible outcome."
Hynes — frequently referred to as 'the man of a thousand songs,' whose songs have been covered by dozens of artists worldwide — announced Sunday that he was unwell during a performance in Brigus.
"We expect that he'll have a surgical procedure in the coming days, following which he'll have to take a couple weeks off, but we don't know exactly what the schedule will be on that yet," Horne said.
Horne said she's hoping he will be back on stage next month.
In February, rumours circulated on Twitter suggesting the acclaimed artist had died.
At the time, Hynes laughed off the suggestion, and said he had no intention of taking a break from performing.
Hynes is a six-time East Coast Music Award winner, and Genie award winner.
In 2010, 'The Man of a Thousand Songs,' a feature film about Hynes’s life, was released. In the film, he spoke openly about his personal and professional struggles.
