Ronald Thistle, the St. John's man charged with the controversial death of a motorcyclist last year, will stand trial in the New Year.

Thistle, 66, is accused of impaired driving causing death.

The charge was laid after Nick Coates, 27, died from injuries sustained in a collision on Kenmount Road in August 2013.
Police allege that Thistle's pickup truck slammed into Coates' motorcycle while the truck was turning on to Kenmount Road.
Thistle has no previous convictions for impaired driving.
A trial date will be set in early 2015.
