One of St. John's most famous pet families added a few new members to the herd this weekend.

Maple — one of the "Southside goats" owned by Steve and Lisa McBride — gave birth to triplets at the family's home on Sunday morning.

The goats are often seen walking along the streets of St. John's, and have developed a strong following on Facebook.

Lisa McBride told the St. John's Morning Show that the new mom is doing well, and the baby goats are being welcomed into the family.

"Words can't describe how adorable it is," McBride said on Monday. "Maple's mom, Goldie, really reacted positively.

"She's very excited, I think, to have little ones around to take care of. She's very much Grandma right now."

Up for adoption

The McBrides started their small herd in 2013, and say the goats are great social pets. They also provide the family with milk, which can also be used to make yogurt and cheese.

It was the second pregnancy for Maple. McBride said multiple births are normal for Nubian goats like her.

Goats are wonderful pets...they're like big, cuddly dogs.- Lisa McBride

"We weren't sure if there was going to be three or four," McBride said. "(Maple) just kept getting bigger, bigger and bigger."

The first kid was a girl, named Spring as she arrived on the first day of the new season. The two other newborn boys aren't yet named, and McBride said she might ask for suggestions on social media.

You can keep only one male goat with a small herd, so the two young boys will be adopted out.

"Backyard goats are wonderful pets to have," McBride says. "The last time we adopted them out, the owners were extremely happy with them.
