What started as a celebration of a religious man has turned into a universal party, and Newfoundland and Labrador is right in the thick of it.

To mark the Irish celebration, CBC Newfoundland and Labrador is giving you a preview of Trad Cab, a new feature which is hosted ... er, driven by Shanneyganock frontman Chris Andrews.

Andrews makes customers sing traditional Newfoundland and Irish music for their cab fare around the city of St. John's. His first guest is our own Ariana Kelland.

Speaking on cabs, there will be plenty of use for them on St. Patrick's Day. Can you think of another day when having a pint at 7 a.m. is acceptable?

St. Patrick's Day is such an important mark in this province, those who stay home can still experience the celebration with a live broadcast.

O'Reilly's Irish Newfoundland Pub on famous bar strip George Street in downtown St. John's has a live cast of goings on.

Even seals are getting into the spirit.

It's green everything on St. Patrick's Day.

On March 17, everything is green for St. Patrick's Day ... including Zach Goudie's ice cream. (Zach Goudie/CBC)
