Veronica Ann Park gets 3 years for mugging 82-year-old woman

A Corner Brook woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for the April mugging of an 82-year-old woman. 

Veronica Ann Park, 37, pleaded guilty in Corner Brook provincial court on Wednesday to robbing the senior citizen outside a bar on Broadway.

The elderly woman had celebrated her birthday at the 86er Pub and was walking home with her VLT winnings when she was attacked.

The victim suffered a broken bone when Park pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.

Park apologized to the court Wednesday, saying she had "hit rock bottom" and had no money at the time of the robbery.    

Judge Wayne Gorman accepted a joint submission from the Crown and defence for a three-year term.

Park will get credit for the 33 days she has already spent in jail. 

No stranger to the legal system, Park has a criminal record that dates back to 2001.
