All over Newfoundland and Labrador, residents and tourists are delighting in the recreational cod fishery.

Monday marks the eighth day of the three-week event and despite the often less-than-pleasant weather, many people have been taking part.

In Petty Harbour, local fishermen are putting on a show, cleaning and filleting cod for fascinated visitors.

Maxine Card, who is visiting from New Brunswick, made the trip to this province with her daughter Clara McLean.

"It's amazing. She wanted to get me out here for my hundredth birthday," said Card.

"The beauty of it is that I still have my memory. A lot of people don't remember that."

The summer fishery is scheduled to remain open until Aug. 9.

Meanwhile, the fall fishery starts on Sept. 19 and run until Sept. 27.
