Almost 6,000 people were killed in super Typhoon Haiyan.

The Canadian Filipino Association in the Yukon raised $61,000.

Raul Dioquino, the association's treasurer, handed over $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross.

"And then the rest would be given to the Oxfam and then the World Vision," he said. "And then for the $15,000 that we have given to internal, we have allotted approximately $300 for each family."

Around 50 Yukoners will receive the $300 to send to their families in the Philippines.

The Government of Canada will match funds raised by recognized charities until Dec. 23.
