An Iqaluit couple travelling 4,000 kilometres by dog sled around Baffin Island is nearly halfway through its journey.

The pair are retracing a route McNair-Landry's parents took 25 years ago.

Sarah McNair-Landry and Erik Boomer were en route to Pond Inlet on Thursday, and have already passed through Pangnirtung, Qikiqtarjuaq and Clyde River.

Boomer says the trip has eerily evoked the one recounted by McNair-Landry's parents in a diary written during the original trip, particularly when it comes to fears about the strength of the dogs.

Boomer and McNair-Landry have been travelling with 14 dogs for nearly 60 days.

Boomer says he and McNair-Landry are meeting their goals — to engage with people and have a lot of fun.
