Search efforts hampered by weather, police say
A grizzly bear attacked and killed a hunter southwest of Norman Wells, N.W.T., near the Yukon border on Wednesday evening.
Norman Wells RCMP received a call around 9:30 p.m. local time that a hunter had been attacked by a bear.
Police said efforts to reach the area were hampered by weather.
Representatives of the RCMP, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Office of the Chief Coroner reached the scene Thursday morning and confirmed a hunter had died after being attacked by a bear.
RCMP say the incident is not considered suspicious and the matter has been turned over to the N.W.T. Coroner Service.
Environment and Natural Resources says a Wildlife Incident Response Team will be searching the area for the grizzly bear.
