"I don't want to hear you say, 'I want, I want, I want.' It's about what we need over here," resident Marjorie Black said at the forum. "What we need is a job. A roof over our head."
Black said she knows the difficulties of finding housing in the community and has been homeless before.
"I'm jobless, I don't have EI, income supports … but I'm still here. I'm me," Black said. "I pay for my rent even though I'm jobless, I pay for my power bill out of my sewings."
The community elections for Behchoko are scheduled for June 12, as well as the Tlicho communities of Whati, Gameti and Wekweeti.
