Court orders new election for Whitehorse animal shelter board

A Yukon Supreme Court judge has ordered elections next week to replace the board of directors of the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter in Whitehorse.

A Yukon Supreme Court judge has ordered elections next week to replace the board of directors of the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter in Whitehorse.

The interim ruling was released late Friday afternoon from Justice Leigh Gower. It ends a year-long fight for control of the animal shelter.

Among the orders are that a general meeting be held next Thursday and that the government registrar appoint a neutral chair.

The current president, Shelley Cuthbert, has been ordered to provide all the financial information she has to help in the transition.

A crowd of about two dozen shelter supporters were in court for the ruling and they broke into applause, calling it the best Christmas present.
