Whitehorse lawyer Karen Ruddy will be stepping up to the bench.
Ruddy has been practising family and criminal law in the Yukon for the past 12 years.
For the past four years, she has worked as a Crown prosecutor and was recently named to head the local Crown attorney's office.
The Yukon government announced Wednesday that Ruddy had been appointed to the $178,000-a-year post as territorial court judge.
