Dominion Diamond Corporation is launching its own trademark to identify diamonds mined in Canada.

The company has announced it will be inscribing all diamonds from its N.W.T. Ekati and Diavik mines with a CanadaMark logo and a serial number. It says the mark will let buyers know their diamonds are Canadian-mined and conflict-free.

The CanadaMark program is owned by Dominion Diamond but the company says any Canadian diamond producer who meets its environmental and ethical mining criteria can use the mark on their stones.

The other Canadian Diamond stamp, Polar Diamonds, is owned by the Government of the Northwest Territories. It gave exclusive rights for that logo to Deepak International, an Edmonton company that has been working on opening a diamond polishing plant in Yellowknife for more than a year now.
