The Yukon government has issued evacuation alerts in the Mayo area around Keno, McQuesten Lake, Hansen Lakes, and the Silver Trail Highway from kilometres four to 24 and from kilometres 101 to 110.

The alerts, issued Friday afternoon, mean that residents in the area should prepare in case of an evacuation order — but they're not being asked to evacuate at this stage.

The alerts are due to danger from fires burning around Ladue Lake — the 34-square-kilometre fire about seven kilometres from Keno City — and the North Ferry Hill fire, which is about 115 square kilometres and is north of Stewart Crossing and the Silver Trail Highway.

Residents are being asked to make an evacuation plan with family and to put together an emergency kit and grab-and-go bag in case an evacuation becomes necessary.
