Hockey the only ice sport in 2016 Arctic Winter Games

The Greenlandic Host Society for the games in Nuuk says it lacks the venues for ice sports and is leasing Iqaluit's arenas only for hockey tournaments.

Hockey is the only ice sport that will be part of the 2016 Arctic Winter Games hosted by Greenland.

The Greenlandic Host Society for the games in Nuuk says it lacks the venues for ice sports and is leasing Iqaluit's arenas for the hockey tournaments.

"Speedskating, curling, and figure skating have not been included," said Amy Elgersma, Iqaluit's director of recreation.

"Figure skating isn't always one that's included, but I know that there will be groups here, especially from curling and speed skating, that might be disappointed."

Elgersma says it's up to Greenland to decide what sports will be part of the competition with help from the Arctic Winter Games International Committee.
