The Nunavut government's insurance will cover the cost of replacing the power plant in Pangnirtung, says the minister in charge of the Qulliq Energy Corporation.

The power plant was destroyed by fire in early April.

Keith Peterson, minister in charge of the Qulliq Energy Corporation, says insurance will cover the cost of replacing the power plant in Pangnirtung.

"We are tracking all expenses associated with the fire and the insurance company [has] agreed to cover all those expenses," said Keith Peterson.

Peterson says there are three insurance companies involved and one has been on-site in Pangnirtung with the fire marshal.

He says the power utility is continuing to update the power plant emergency plan and says all employees work to the highest standards to ensure the power plants are safe.
