Blizzard shuts down Iqaluit: full closure listings
Hospital accepting emergencies only, Arctic Winter Games hockey games delayed until noon
The city is shut down, Arctic Winter Games hockey games were delayed, the hospital is open only for emergencies and many businesses are closed as Iqaluit weathers another blizzard.
Environment Canada is predicting wind northwest at 70 km/h gusting to 90 this morning. It's -23 C in the capital but feels like -41.

Winds are expected to drop slightly late this afternoon with the temperature dropping to -25 C, which will feel more like -43.
Several offices and businesses are closed, including:
- Government of Nunavut offices
- Nunavut Legislative Assembly
- Nunavut Court of Justice
- First Steps Daycare
- Garderie les petits nanooks
- Iqaluit Housing Authority
- Qikiqtani Inuit Association
- Qikiqtaaluk Corp.
- Maliganik Tukiisiniakvik
- Parks Canada
- Public Prosecution Service of Canada
- Indigenous and Northern Affairs
- Nunavut Justice Centre
CBC Nunavut staff have also been instructed to stay home until further notice — something that rarely happens.
