An Arviat, Nunavut man's fundraising walk has raised almost $13,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

That's almost triple the amount Jackson Kablutsiak, 21, set as a goal when he walked more than 100 kilometres from Arviat to Maguse Lake and back earlier this month. It took him, two friends and a family dog four days to do the walk.

A fundraising walk by Jackson Kablutsiak of Arviat, Nunavut, raised almost $13,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Kablutsiak presented the donation in person at the foundation's office in Winnipeg.

"I'm happy that I will be giving the money to the kidney foundation and will be helping I don't know how many people," he said. "I did this because I wanted to give back what was given to me and that's why I did the fundraising."

Kablutsiak is the only person in Arviat who has had a kidney transplant.

Kablutsiak recently handed the cheque over to the Canadian Kidney Foundation in Winnipeg. He says he wants to continue raising awareness about kidney disease.
