RCMP have charged a man with a handful of offences, including pointing a firearm and assault with a weapon, after police made an arrest at an apartment building in Yellowknife late last week.

At around 1:30 p.m. Friday, police said they responded to reports of a man pointing a firearm at the temporary day shelter on 49th Street. In a news release that day, police alleged the individual made threats after being denied food at the shelter.

As they headed to the area, RCMP learned that the suspect had gone to an apartment building on Gitzel Street. Multiple police units headed to the Fort Gary Apartments, including a crisis negotiation team and police dogs.

The suspect was taken into custody around 5 p.m., and police said they found an imitation firearm at the scene.

RCMP said Tuesday they've charged a 35-year-old man with pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and obstructing a peace officer.
